The Ruby Group specializes in hands on investing, incubating new companies and founders with great ideas who need time, money, and expertise, to yield top line business growth.  Started in the 1950s as a Real Estate Development and Construction company by their grandfather Julius Berman, principals Howie and Pete Berman have grown The Ruby Group into a powerhouse, named one of the fastest growing companies by Inc. Magazine.


The Ruby Group traces its origins back to Julius Berman, a cabinetmaker by trade who began building homes in the 1950s in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, N.Y. In the late 1950s, amidst the planning of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Julius recognized that opportunities for developments abounded on Staten Island, and he began purchasing land throughout the area. Julius worked into his last days in the early 1980s.

After a career in accounting, Marty Berman, Julius’ eldest son, continued the family tradition, constructing homes and buildings on Staten Island. He also returned to The Ruby Group’s roots by acquiring property in the Bergen Beach section of Brooklyn, just across the bay from one of the company’s original projects in Canarsie. In the mid 1990s, Marty’s son, Peter Berman, joined to guide developments in Staten Island and Brooklyn. During this time, Marty and Peter began to develop affordable housing units. Peter also oversaw the first New Jersey projects for the company by building affordable housing in Carteret, N.J.


Marty’s other son, Howie Berman, who had been building homes in Chicago, joined his father and brother in the family business in 2002. Peter and Howie saw a need for a professional project management firm capable of doing commercial and large-scale residential projects in the Hudson Valley and started The Ruby Group. TRG is now the region’s premier provider of construction services and consulting to professional investors, owners, developers, landlords, tenants, financial institutions and end users.

The Ruby Group is known for high quality supervision and an exceptionally high level of integrity. We can tailor a program to fit the needs of small, medium, and large projects. Through our experience and successful track record both within our own land development company and assisting clients, TRG has proven that we get the job done efficiently and with a high degree of quality.

Every project is run with respect for the workers, investors and all parties involved. Each project is supervised directly by one of the principals and treated as if it were our own.
